Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am an experienced, well established, qualified psychotherapist and counsellor based in Markyate, Hertfordshire. I am empathic, caring and curious and use these qualities, alongside my comprehensive training, as the basis for my work.

As well as this private practice, I work for an Employee Assistance Provision (EAP), providing short-term face-to-face & remote counselling to staff within the NHS and other public and private sector employees.

My passion is for psychodynamic psychotherapy. This way of working allows us to investigate and understand long-established patterns of behaviour that may be making life difficult for you now. We can explore the unconscious processes that motivate your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, using these reflections to create the basis for growth, self-acceptance and resolution of internal conflicts.

I practice 'The Rewind' technique, which is a simple process that can reduce or remove involuntary recall, such as flashbacks & nightmares, associated with trauma. This technique can be used without you having to discuss the details of the trauma itself and can be effective very quickly, in perhaps 2 or 3 sessions for single traumatic events.

I am also trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), which is a solution focused therapy, concentrating on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours impact on your overall experience of the world around you.
I will tailor our work together to best suit you, focusing on current difficulties as well as long-standing issues.

Counselling and psychotherapy offer you the chance to reflect in a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space, and to help you to shed some light on thoughts and feelings that may feel very dark.

I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework for excellent and professional practice. I continue to participate in professional training to ensure my work is reflective of current thinking and practice.
